Why Hydrogen?
The GREATER4H project is a collaboration between the three private hydrogen companies implementing the hydrogen stations and 10 public regions and cities contributing with their knowledge and political mandate. This cooperation aims to benefit from specifically 3 factors to accelerate the hydrogen agenda.
The companies Everfuel, GP JOULE Hydrogen and Hynion will implement the hydrogen refueling stations with their expertise, resources and capacity. Nevertheless, to ensure a strong political commitment to GREATER4H in Northern Europe 10 public authorities at the local and regional level from Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Norway are committed to engage in GREATER4H, mostly as associated partners without CEF funding.
The 10 public authorities are all members of STRING. Members of STRING have long-term established practices of cooperation on sustainable transportation between the local, regional, and national level of governance. A strategic priority in STRING is to implement and deploy high-quality sustainable transport connectivity from Hamburg to Oslo, where establishing a green hydrogen corridor plays a key part.
The engagement of the public authorities, as associated partners to GREATER4H, will be coordinated by the STRING organisation (Region Zealand).
According to the OECD, STRING have the potential to become a leading European megaregion and a global powerhouse for the green transition. This is why the local and regional authorities in STRING work together to accelerate the green transition and reap the benefits of an interconnected megaregion. A strategic priority in STRING is to implement and deploy high-quality sustainable transport connectivity from Hamburg to Oslo, where establishing a green hydrogen corridor plays a key part.
The members have followed the development of the project from the project idea and onwards, and have continuously contributed to public events, debate articles, and a series of meetings on the topic of green hydrogen. The established practices and a strong existing network will enable strong support and commitment from the public sector to GREATER4H throughout the project duration and beyond. This will be a crucial commitment to accelerate the roll-out of a green hydrogen infrastructure in Northern Europe.

With hydrogen being a new technology, it is crucial that the processes for its practical implementation, including technical aspects, safety, and climate regulation, as well as operational requirements, are discussed among public authorities, to ensure knowledge-sharing and regulatory innovation. Focused involvement of public stakeholders will help catalyse more widespread deployment of hydrogen as a green transportation fuel.
GREATER4H ensures an open dialogue regarding the hydrogen technology in the public sector, especially where the HRSs will be deployed. The STRING organisation are assisting the three private partners with this communication about this relatively new technology.
